Based on Kessler International’s construction audit of the Fulton County School District (FCSD), in Atlanta, Georgia, school board President, Gail Dean, has initiated an “amnesty incentive” to over 300 contractors who have worked on the district’s construction and renovation projects.

In 2004, Kessler International was hired by the FCSD to review $150-million spent on four large projects- three school constructions and an extensive school renovation. Fulton school officials credit Kessler’s audit with –to date- the return of more than $6-million from contractors and architects on completed projects.

Prior to a review of smaller-scale projects slated to begin next year, Dean has launched an amnesty campaign in the hope that contractors and sub-contractors will voluntarily admit wrong doing and pay the school system back. In this way, the school system is sending a message to contractors that the FCSD is serious about recouping funds spent inappropriately. Concludes Dean, “They will be in a better position if they come forward, than if we find it (fraud) and go after them.”
