PRODUCT COUNTERFEITING: CONSUMER DANGERS

Rocky Point, NY, November 13, 1995: Michael G. Kessler, the president of Kessler & Associates, Ltd. an international investigative consulting firm specializing in product counterfeiting investigations recently appeared on a number of television and radio talk shows discussing product counterfeiting and the dangers it presents to consumers. Kessler & Associates' Fraudbusters recently assisted the US Marshall's Office in the seizure of 24,000 bottles of Head & Shoulders Shampoo from Quality King in Long Island. Product seized in other recent actions included fragrances, clothing, toys, and jewelry.

Kessler stressed in his interview that manufacturers must exercise extra efforts during the holiday season to protect their brand names. Everything from automobile parts, computer software, toys, pharmaceutical, clothing and fragrances have been counterfeited and are being sold in the United States in an abundant quantity. He said that as the holiday season approaches, inferior fake product floods the marketplace and put businesses and consumers at risk both legally and from and health standpoint.
