SnapBack DatArrest -
Forensic Version
|
SnapBack DatArrest from Forensic Version
represents an outstanding new tool for data seizure and recovery.
Sector by sector, SnapBack uses its True
Image Backup Technology to copy the hard disk regardless of whether
data resides on a certain sector or not. This preserves the exact
image of the hard disk being copied to a portable removable disk
system such as Iomega's Zip, Jaz drives, or Syquest Drives.
SnapBack runs completely independent of
a PC's operating system so evidence on hard disks is left intact and
untampered with. A recent test-drive utilized a 1GB capacity Jaz Drive
connected to the parallel port to copy a PC with a local hard disk
capacity of 750MB. The operation took three hours to complete. Of
course performance will vary depending on the portable drive used, the
connection to a parallel or SCSI port, and hard drive
performance. (SnapBack-FE will back up any hard drive attached to any
SCSI or parallel port tape drive, or even to another hard drive.) At
a cost of under $600, Snap Back DatArrest merits a serious look by all
IT and investigative professionals. For more information contact

RSA SecurePC
Looking for file security through
encryption? Check out RSA's SecurePC for Windows 95 & NT, a
flexible new program that can be easily added to any workstation.
After a two-step installation process,
the system embeds an arsenal of extra functions to your desktop
Explorer. A single or a batch of files can be encrypted with one
click of the mouse. This program also gives the user the ability to
allow encrypted files to be shared with co-workers and associates that
do not own RSA's SecurePC software. By using a mutually known
password, colleagues can receive e-mail or a floppy disk encrypted
files which they can decrypt. For more information about RSA
SecurePC, contact: RSA Data Security Inc. Phone: 415-595-8782. Fax:

However, as with copyright infringement,
an experienced investigator can scan the entire Web to identify any
information that could only have been obtained by illegally accessing
your company's internal network. No matter how sophisticated,
software can only do so much to catch the perpetrators of corporate
espionage. It takes the trained eye of a knowledgeable professional
to uncover the subtle clues that make up a trail of evidence.

Con Games
Mentioned only because it is one of the
most common crimes on the Internet. Get-rich-quick schemes have been
around for time immemorial, but the purveyors of these scams have
found a new audience on the Internet. Pyramid schemes and multi-level
marketing arrangements are the most common cons on the Web, bilking
millions of dollars every year from vulnerable individuals.
